Travel photography is not the same as making photo's on a vacation. Those photo's are to be shown to family as a proof of 'having been there'. A very good reason to make them. But they seldom show the backside of the reality of far away places. Travel photography aims at showing the reality that is seldom shown to tourists, that is mostly overlooked, that is hidden for the passers by. Travel photography opens the eye of the the looker-on. It shows (often in one picture) both the beauty and the ugliness of the world people live in. Nearby and far away.

This part of my website shows some of the many photo's taken during my journey's in Asia, the Himalaya Region (a.o. Tibet, Bhutan, China, Nepal) and Europe (a.o. Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy) .

My name is Johan G. Hahn (1951)

Since 1995 I work as an (audiovisual) communication consultant and in management functions in communication and charity organizations and as a freelance photographer and journalist. From 1981-1995 I worked as a university professor in audio-visual communication and film studies and public relations in the Netherlands. I was a visiting professor in Germany (Duisburg, Freiburg), Switzerland (Fribourg) and Austria (Graz) and I have been working as communication consultant, director of communication, director of fundraising and general manager (CEO) in several profit and non-profit organizations.

I did religious studies, communication studies and film studies and I was trained as a film director and 16mm camera operator and as a photographer. I got my PhD in (audiovisual) communication studies in 1988 in Amsterdam.

Although I was educated in an analogous photo- and film tradition (16 mm) I changed in 2003 to digital photography, using light Nikon equipment. This choice being motivated by the way I work. It is my view that a photographer should as little as possible interfere in the scenes he is taking pictures of. With his camera the photographer is a guest within the scenes before his lens. He is only a participating observer and never more than that. With light Nikon and Leica I try to make myself more or less ´invisible´ as a photographer. This results in natural portraits and non-arranged photographic compositions in social and corporate photography. My photographs are not electronically manipulated or cut together, unless stated otherwise. I use computer equipment to ameliorate the quality of the pictures only. I mostly produce my photo work (expositions, books etc) at my own costs and at my own risk, thus being free of commercial obligations. Finding an editor for publication or a gallery for an exposition is part of the post-production period.

My main areas of photographic interest are: corporate photography, social photography, travel photography, , natural portaits and the production of photo books and complete journalistic features (including the text). From time to time I organise photo expositions

Apart from that I make art work by manipulating special photo's. Art work is for sale via this website only and send world wide free of charge. You'll find my Art Work here.Each piece of art is limited to 50 numbered prints only!

Skidiz is a small, flexible, Netherlands based and international operating professional network-organization dedicated to support profit and non-profit organizations with sollutions for their communication problems. We support our clients with all aspects of internal and external communication, marketing and fundraising and the related organizational problems.

Our core activities are:

* Consultancy on boardroom level on in- and external communication, organization, marketing and fundraising

* Research, training and coaching in these areas

* Interim management

I also add some of my recent publications in this section. At the moment they are only available in Dutch a translation will be prepared (sorry for that).

This section shows my Photographic Art Work.

Every print is hand signed and numbered. From every piece of Art Work only 10 prints are made. Art Work prints are framed in a passe partout and a birchwood coloured wooden frame of about 50 x 70 cm. Art Work is send worldwide, well packed and free of charge.

Portraits

Natural Portraits are non posed portraits. They give a more natural result.

The presence of a photo camera changes peoples behavior both willingly and unwillingly.

When making photographs of people I allways work with light photo equipment. I try to make myself as much 'invisible' as possible. This allows me to make 'Natural Portraits' showing people 'as they are'. I try to interfere as little as possible with the situation in front of my camera. I try to be a participating observer making people as much unaware of the presence of a photo camera as possible.

Nature is everywhere around us. It is on the treshold of our houses. It is not only hidden and far away. We only have to open our eyes and look to see the beauty of the nature around us. The beauty of nature invites us to find those details that makes everyday nature so special. Enjoy the beauty of the natural world we live in.

Organisations use photography to show their production sites, their buildings, their products, their power, their people, their values, the way they care about the environment and many other aspects of their being. Words are not enough today. Organisations need visuals, they need photography in a visual world. They use corporate photography to support their (visuel) image. Good photography supports the positive image of an organisation and it adds to te realisation of its targets

In this section I also present photo's of the build environment we live in: organisations do organise their physical world by making architectonial constructions on the verge of art and technology. The photo's of (details of) buildings in this secton show both the beauty and the ugliness of the world man created.

Social photography shows the social aspects of the world we live in. The accent is on the way people organise their world to live or to survive. Social photography often shows a world that we hardly understand. It shows a world where people survive on place we think they cannot. It shows a world that we'd like to change for better, but we realise we cannot. Social photography speaks direct to the heart because it appeals to our social responsibility and it shows our lack of power and social influence. But is also shows the power of the people and their hope! As such social photography is like a mirror, showing us aspects of our deepest feelings we'd like to hide.
