My name is Johan G. Hahn (1951)
Since 1995 I work as an (audiovisual) communication consultant and in management functions in communication and charity organizations and as a freelance photographer and journalist. From 1981-1995 I worked as a university professor in audio-visual communication and film studies and public relations in the Netherlands. I was a visiting professor in Germany (Duisburg, Freiburg), Switzerland (Fribourg) and Austria (Graz) and I have been working as communication consultant, director of communication, director of fundraising and general manager (CEO) in several profit and non-profit organizations.
I did religious studies, communication studies and
film studies and I was trained as a film director and 16mm camera operator and
as a photographer.
I got my PhD in (audiovisual) communication studies in
1988 in Amsterdam.
Although I was educated in an analogous photo- and film tradition (16 mm) I changed in 2003 to digital photography, using light Nikon equipment. This choice being motivated by the way I work. It is my view that a photographer should as little as possible interfere in the scenes he is taking pictures of. With his camera the photographer is a guest within the scenes before his lens. He is only a participating observer and never more than that. With light Nikon and Leica I try to make myself more or less ´invisible´ as a photographer. This results in natural portraits and non-arranged photographic compositions in social and corporate photography. My photographs are not electronically manipulated or cut together, unless stated otherwise. I use computer equipment to ameliorate the quality of the pictures only. I mostly produce my photo work (expositions, books etc) at my own costs and at my own risk, thus being free of commercial obligations. Finding an editor for publication or a gallery for an exposition is part of the post-production period.
My main areas of photographic interest are: corporate photography, social photography, travel photography, , natural portaits and the production of photo books and complete journalistic features (including the text). From time to time I organise photo expositions
